Approximately 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm authorities.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a release.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a man noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Police then discovered numerous other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are presently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for information.
An important political figure said the vandalism rendered him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the right-wing terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
